March is almost over! I am sure everyone’s making preparations for some well-deserved summer vacations. If it were any other year, my family would probably do the same, but March signified the arrival of Kai Lahbati Gutierrez! My hands are pretty full right now as a result. I wrote about his birth, too. 🙂
But even before Kai decided to finally come into the world, I was making a lot of preparations, both mentally and physically. These last few days of pregnancy were the most anticipated. Zion, Chard, and I were just a few weeks away from some major changes at home. Because of this, I wanted to surround myself with good vibes so that I kept myself mentally sane and physically well.
Here are some of my March favorites that helped me get through this month.
I am finding my inner calm through the Headspace app.
I promise this isn’t just old lady speak, but there is something to be said about meditation and mindfulness. It’s so easy to get caught up in the stress of daily life. If you don’t keep yourself in check, you can spiral into a pit of exhaustion. Headspace helps you meditate so that you can refocus for the day. A few minutes in a day is all it takes to be aware of your thoughts and feelings, and deal with them in a healthy manner.
I am nourishing my skin with La Mer Revitalizing Hydrating Serum
Many praises have been sung about La Mer, which has some of the holy grail skincare products available. The secret to youthful skin is keeping it healthy and hydrated. This serum does just that. Its ingredients also include antioxidants that help protect your skin and repair it. The La Mer Revitalizing Hydrating Serum is a splurge, but I feel like the noticeable effects are worth it.
I am eating Café Mediterranean’s Chicken Gyro.
Greek food seems to be the best of both worlds: it’s healthy thanks to the use of quality ingredients, and it’s incredibly tasty thanks to the use of herbs and spices. Taking a bite of Café Med’s Chicken Gyro will give you visions of dappled sunlight on rustic streets in Greece, with the smell of the sea close by. Their gyro is great for a quick lunch, but be sure to order some baklava for dessert!
I am staying healthy with the help of my Garmin watch.
Fitness trackers are pretty commonplace these days. Garmin is a wearable that helps me track my steps, heart rate, and sleep. This is to make sure I’m in tip-top shape. It was especially helpful when I was nearing my due date!
I am keeping fit with prenatal yoga.
The last stretches of pregnancy may be exciting, but there can be periods of time when you can feel uncomfortable. Prenatal yoga was my way of helping prepare for Kai’s birth. Gentle, guided yoga with calm breathing and meditation did a lot in making those last few weeks easier. Postnatal yoga classes are also available for moms who want to continue this after their baby is born, and it’s something I may also look into.
I am preparing for labor with a yoga ball.
Kai is in my arms as we speak, but I took quite a few steps to prepare for the inevitable labor pains and contractions. Sitting on a yoga ball or birthing ball helps increase your chances of a better natural delivery. It helps strengthen your back and open up your pelvis, which are two common places that experience sharp pain during labor. There are many benefits to using a birthing ball, including lessened labor pains and stress. It can vary from person to person, but there is no harm in trying it out.
I am using Lanisoh Lanolin cream to help me prepare for breastfeeding.
Kai is breastfeeding wonderfully thanks to some help from a lactation consultant. But before that even happened, I was using Lanisoh Lanolin cream to prepare. It has quickly become one of my March favorites! This cream helps alleviate the soreness and dryness on your nipples that can happen at this time. It’s 100% safe to be used by breastfeeding moms, and honestly quite a savior! In the Philippines, this is available at Mothercare.
I am listening to a lot of good music.
In my mind, good music will always put me in a good mood. I’m currently listening to my Sick Beats playlist on Spotify which is just a mix of tunes that make me happy and gets me going. Check me out on Spotify!
I am in love with my new baby boy!
I hope you don’t mind that I keep talking about Kai, but I can’t help it! We’re all so in love with him. I think Kai will definitely be my best March favorite from now until forever. I know these are early stages still, but I have so much in my head for the future. Is it too early to start planning his first trip and first birthday? I can’t wait to watch Kai take his first steps, say his first words, and grow up alongside his Kuya Zion. Of course, for now, I’d be happy to keep him as little as he is now because the way he fits in my arms perfectly just makes me so content. It’s wonderful to take it a day at a time and enjoy the experience of being a new momma again.
