This morning, I woke up and realized that I have a five-year-old.
Pinch me; I must be dreaming.
It didn’t seem like too long ago that my first child Zion was a small baby that fit into my arms perfectly. I remember those very early days of motherhood so clearly. I remember feeling so unsure if I was doing it all right, but all I knew was that even when things were hard, I was filled with overwhelming love for the little boy who relied on me for everything.
Now, he’s not so little anymore! (I still don’t know how to feel about this.) But I do know that the love we have for him is just the same, if not so much more. It still blows me away how he could get from crawling on all fours to being a cheeky, playful kid who sometimes runs around too fast for me to keep up! Zion is no longer a baby; he’s a kid with a personality of his own. It fills me with wonder to be alongside him as he grows up and discovers things about the world and himself each day.
For Zion’s fifth birthday, I made sure to celebrate with something that made him happy. After all, they’re only kids for a little while. 🙂 I asked him for the theme that he wanted, and he chose Ninja Turtles. Any moms out there whose kids love the Ninja Turtles too? 😛
I know a lot of moms tend to do all the decision-making themselves for their kids’ birthdays, but I involved Zion in choosing what he wanted. Yup, he even chose his cake! The rest of the party planning is, of course, left to mommy, but Tita Annabelle is also helping me plan. You can imagine that she knows exactly who to call and what to ask for when it comes to these things!
The party was a whole lot of fun! It’s pretty amazing that we manage to pull off events that aren’t boring and have something for all guests to enjoy.
We’re so lucky that we have a whole team making sure that the party was a success. We didn’t have to worry so much about the finer details because a lot of our partners took care of everything. Party Station Philippines created the amazing party setup. Look at all that detail!! We all really loved how it turned out. Nice Print Photography captured all the fun moments from Zion’s party, as they have always been there for our family since day one.
Zion’s friends (and even the adults in the room) got to choose from a lot of sweets! We had Lollipuffers cotton candy, yummy handmade ice cream rolls from R-Freezy, an in-theme dessert buffet prepared by One Sweet Day Ph, and cold banana con hielo from Jungle Joy Ph. The amazing ninja turtles cake which Zion picked out was made by Honey Glaze Cakes. We also had Spud Buds potato chips, and Purefoods hotdogs to snack on.
Our guests got to take home cute fans and themed bottles from Insta Mug. They’re perfect to beat the heat this summer! Arteegram Manila set up a corner with personalized magic mugs, sling bags, coin banks, towels, pencil cases, and mirrors. They also helped us with a design-your-mug party activity.
Looking back at all his birthdays, it was really his first that was the grandest. We had a jungle-themed party because everyone used to call him Zion the Lion. Look at those chubby cheeks and that mop of hair!!! He’s mostly grown into it now.
For his fourth birthday, we kept it simple with a celebration at home. But since this year is special with us welcoming Kai into the family, we decided to throw him a party for his fifth. This is so that he knows that even if he has a brother now, I will always love him, and want him to be happy and filled with good memories of his childhood.
Happy Birthday, Zion! Mommy, Daddy, and Kai love you more than you can imagine. You’re growing up so fast, but please don’t grow up too fast. No matter how tall you get, or birthdays we celebrate, you’ll always be my baby boy.
